"The oil and gas was trapped there for a very very long time.". .. until it was tapped. do I need to repeat it's the cap that keep the Co2 in. thats the weakness in the plan. thats why its failed so many times over the last 20 years.
I well recognise the path changing benefits we humans have reaped from FFs over the last 250 years or so. its been the prime mover of technology, industry and commerce as well as health education and food production. but even if we disregard the global warming for a moment, when new technology is developed which provide cheaper energy with comparatively little pollution and much greater versatility..... its sensible to do a comparison with an open mind.
very soon, in the greater scale of history, around 50 years, and gas will follow coal and be gradually phased out. in the meanwhile though its better not to leave any booby traps to explode ion our faces once we've managed to reverse global warming.
