so the question arises were the followers of Jesus, such as the Centurion, liars?

the answer here is: "Not necessarily so" because when Jesus said: "Forgive them, they do not know what they do", at that moment, Jesus died to sin

so when the Centurion asked Pilate: "it is so", he may have been speaking the truth

however, because we ourselves, as Xians, are not yet dead to sin (since we are yet to carrying our crosses to die with him), we still speculate about materialistic worldly matters such as the death of a physical body
