what century is this

for now, we read, re. the current civil war, of killers within Syria, cutting out and eating the hearts of their murdered victims.

And then there's the "Festival of Sacrifice" being held, in Jordan. Terrified animals hauled cruelly through the streets, their throats roughly cut - handled like pieces of garbage.

Which brings us to our own doorstep. A beautiful 5 yr. old bay mare, a champion racehorse, expected to loom large in the Melbourne Cup finish, "Verema", broke her cannon bone, and all we read, and heard, over Channel 7 TV, from the VRC, was that she didn't "finish" - we asumed she jus ran last. Then she was classed as a "DNF" - or "did not finish", in tote lists of winnings. Only by looking up our betting site did we later learn what had really become of this gifted mare.

And so all the fake tans, the expensive suits, the punters, the bookies, it seems, let alone the media, didn't either know, or if they did, didn't care, that this gorgeous, brilliant French mare was being "euthanized" on the track, shortly after the race finished. A minute's silence would have been nice.

Hardly heard one word about it.

Or about the above atrocities, of Syria. (Daily events). Or this immense cruelty to animals going on in the Middle East - under the etch of this so-called "religion of peace" - Islam? Does this show us just how much we're all, slowly, being so tragically de-sensitized?
