Other treatments and products released after trial date has caused a few even successful trials to not be a good investment by some company. Pricing of end product not having decent margins- ie people/ insurers won't pay much for such a short life extension.

So many factors regarding trial design. interesting discussion on threads regarding recent trial failure that company had choice to do FDA approved or a pre approval. They chose not to get the specific FDA approval and the FDA tore strips off them when lodging data review. Management had not passed on prior FDA concerns to shareholders.
