This report also informs us that , "While the decision to construct two Hadrian X prototypes side-by-side has pushed out the dateline by at least six months from an initially targeted delivery date of end-2017)...", so there was a good reason for that delay.

The report also tells us that there are plenty of alternatives to CAT if they don't come back on board, "BR’s targeted route to commercialising the Hadrian X is ... with a large, global manufacturer of heavy construction and mining machinery (and preferably one with distribution, servicing, and preferably financing capabilities). As such, Caterpillar - with which FBR has a MOU – is an ideal partner. Other potential partners (essentially competitors to Caterpillar) would include Komatsu (Japan), Hitachi (Japan), Liebherr (Germany), Volvo (Sweden), Terex (US), Deere & Co (US), J.C. Bamford (US), Doosan Infracore (South Korea) and LiuGong (China)."

So what could go right big time is that one of these big players starts production of HXs, and the report's global outlook that "the volume of construction work will grow by 85% to US$15.5 trillion worldwide by 2030" comes to pass. Full report here:
