I have to concur with what you have said. We are in a massive trade war and we don't realize it. Trump has been very good at shafting Australia's farmers to the benefit of his own farmers and I can only see this continuing, hence I can forsee him being re-elected because his rhetoric resonates well with the American voter. If Biden gets the ticket, I can still see the same trend happening but not so vocal, either/or, the Aussie farmers are going to cop it.
Looking forward, Australia should be concentrating on suring up the 1. rare earths supplies to stop China's monopoly 2. Control our oil and gas reserves as it will be much sought after in Asean countries Interesting times ahead!
