Hi Menta,
The implication of your post is that the rest of the world has to be booming
for Australia to be in good nick economically.
We are a very small country with only 22 million population so all we have to do is develop and process key esources which are needed by China, India and
other Asian countries.
We have over 2.5 billion mounts to be feed, clothe and house on our doorstep
and all we have to do is grab 10% of this market .
Instead, we sit around waiting for the world economy to improve and then expect multinationals to save us.
Take Warnambool Cheese for example. As soon as it gears up to export we flog
it. And its the same with other agribusinesses. This is the opposite of what we should be doing.
But if we want to sit around and whinge , that's fine, but if we want to be
other that working class we have to get out there and compete ; not capitulate.
Cheers

PS: I mean become a regional leader in wool and cotton goods, processed foods
and kit homes. These are the non-discretionaries needed in our area.
Instead, multinationals dig up and ship out iron ore and coal in boom and bust cycles and we all sit by (including Government) hoping for the best.
Perhaps we need a wave of Chinese and Japanese migrants to show us how its done. MM
