TMR is not a good example to illustrate good management versus bad external factors. TMR's problems are directly attributable to poor management practice.
eg. Purchasing lots of mines and leases without a lot of due diligence. Jumping straight into mining in Chile without any feasablilty study. Now they are encountering high costs and problems because they acted like a "bull in a china shop". And yes, they do produce lots of glossy announcements and they also gloss over their problems.
Fortunately AAR's management is not in the "same league" as TMR. And AAR's SP has not suffered as much as TMR's
