Introduced new police powers to spy on and hackinnocent Aussies, without a warrant, even if they're not suspected ofcommitting any crime. Powers include snooping, modifying, deletingdata and account takeover. The legislation was voted on only hours after givingit to the crossbenchers to review. The legislation was reviewed by intelligencegroups, but no public interest privacy advocates. The legislation went againstthe government's own review into hacking powers. The government rejected aproposal to have a public interest advocate argue on behalf of thehacked person to balance privacy against safety. The argument is that if you'vedone nothing wrong, you've got nothing to hide. Powers include removing twofactor authentication on accounts, thereby making it easier for unrelatedcriminals to hack those Australians.
