there are two forums because on the world politics - there are things that are discussed that don't have much at all to do with Australia
the American presidential race - has EVERYTHING to do with Australia
look at one single area -
the Donald says that he is going put a min. of a 60% up to 100% tariff on all Chinese goods (all) and a 10% tariff on ALL imports, no matter where from.
Now - short term - that is more than likely to blow inflation in the USA sky high.
Now - if he doesn't dump the fed - then, the fed would respond with rate rises - and they would have to be solid and sustained to contain such an inflation spike ------------- if he DOES dump the fed - which he is also saying - then, either he has to raise the rates too to contain it - OR not raise it and more than likely let loose inflation that would be nothing less than eye watering
now - Australia ----------- how would that affect Australia -
well - for a start ----------- it HAS to effect Australia - if rates in the states rise - if Aus rises also - home owners with mortgages are massively affected
if Oz doesn't raise rates --- then the dollar plumets as money flows out of Australia into the USA
so, whilst it's not certain to predict exactly what will happen - it's a pretty good bet that something BIG will happen - TO Australia
if interest rates in the US rise a couple of percent - it hurts home owners
if interest rates in Oz rise - it hurts MUCH MORE
if things rise by maybe 5 % ---------- we are talking about a catastrophic change to Australians
that my friend - deserves to be discussed in an Australian political forum
the mechanism may well be in world politics - but, believe me - the damage and destruction will be in Ozzie politics, Ozzie homes and harm Ozzie people -
