Is there any information available on this? How do they get supplies in and gold out of the Sanbrado? How do they protect workers?
Some things I have read recently make me think the security situation:
- There's an article in the June 2020 edition of The Economist which locations of terror attacks in Burkina Faso by Islamic State in the Greater Sahara and Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin. It shows attacks quite deep into Burkina faso, even down to the border with the Ivory Coast.
- The location of this most recent attack last week is only about 120km East of Sanbrado, in the village of Fada Ngourma. It's only three hours' drive from Sandbrado according to Google Maps. The location of the attack on SEMAFO's staff last November was only about another 60km east of there.
