Bindoon in new bauxite find


WESTERN Australian resources company Iron Mountain Mining has outlined a 7-million tonne bauxite deposit close to Perth.

It reported today that a maiden inferred high-grade bauxite resource of 7.15 million tonnes at 44.8 per cent had been identified within a total inferred bauxite resource of 17.48 million tonnes.

The resource is in the central Bindoon region within its Wandoo bauxite project along the Darling Ranges, north of Perth.

``The high-grade resource defined within a total inferred bauxite resource has the potential to become direct shipping ore (DSO) material when the mineral resource is upgraded - to at least indicated status - and converted to ore reserves using parameters from current technologies regarded as standard within industry for bauxite deposits,'' said Iron Mountain managing director Robert Sebek.

The Wandoo bauxite project comprises seven granted and six pending exploration licences covering more than 950sq.km from Chittering to north of New Norcia.

The inferred bauxite resource is contained within an exploration licence which is adjacent to the Bindoon operations of Bauxite Resources Ltd.

BRL has recently extracted three 40,000-plus tonne trial shipments of bauxite ore for shipping to clients in Shandong Province, China.

Mr Sebek said that despite the relatively early exploration status of the Wandoo bauxite project, the company has already received several expressions of interest and expects that the continued advancement of the project will likely generate further investment and development opportunities in the future.
