Have been to Gallipoli. Went on a day trip, thinking, "this will be interesting", was shocked at how much I was affected. Not on anzac day either, just sightseeing.
All people I spoke to there, came away with exactly that feeling, and all would have agreed with your statement.
I think our celebration of anzac day is more and more falling into step with what you have said.
