I've never seen so much hysteria engineered over an old war like Gallipoli - I lived in the UK for many years and there was never any mention of it whatsoever (if you asked a hundred people I'd be surprised if one could tell you what it was and the British lost more than Australia), nor is any other war glorified in particular.... people are caught in their times, thousands volunteered for WWI thinking of it as an adventure because in plain english they were lied to - once there however they had to make the best of it or get shot - there were many brave actions and many good people on both sides were killed senslessly as in all wars, but this glorification of Gallipoli in particular has me puzzled. Why 12 year old schoolgirls should be crying in 2009 over a war which took place nearly a hundred years ago is an aberration..... perhaps we should focus on Waterloo or Trafalgar? I'm sure lots of good people died there as well....
