    did you bother to check out what this character said, and the context in which it was said?

    gautama had to speak to conventional beings using conventional language with the aim that they would see how they are making themselves subject to suffering by their actions
    things that are said can be quite important to those that are suffering and creating the causes for suffering

    ps - about the pure light
    in your 'travels' perhaps you may recall some testimony of even this "amazing" pure light being the hiding place of some subtle defilements

    you think that i am a theist
    but that is wrong view, or lack of insight
    i'm neither a theist or an atheist
    and there really is no 'i'm' either, although this illusion should not be neglected while it appears to exist and is subject to suffering
    however, you have said many times that you are an atheist - that's says more than you may suppose.
