Kribi Deep Port: Construction work begins soon 02/02/2009: The follow-up committee for the construction of the Kribi deep seaport have just ended an evaluation mission to identify an adequate site that would harbour the deep seaport. An inspection tour to finalise feasibility studies for construction of the seaport to begin this year was organised in Kribi.
Committee members inspected five proposed sites along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in Grand Batanga and Campo.
The site in the Grand Batanga area was however not ideal for some reasons.
First, the site is not deep enough to anchor heavy carriers. Second, the area is densely populated with many activities.
In spite of these shortcomings, the committee maintained the site chosen since the project was initiated, as a potential area for the construction of the port.
Four other sites have however been identified and the final decision from the committee is expected in the near future.
Apart from the construction of the port, some of the sites chosen would be developed for tourism and others for the exportation of minerals like aluminium extracted in the zone.
The population of the Ocean Division have been expressing delight over the news that the construction of the Kribi Deep Seaport will begin this year.
The committee has estimated that the project will cover 20 thousand hectares of land, offer jobs to the local population and enhance rehabilitation of roads and other social amenities.
The inhabitants of the area are now determined to be properly organised to face up with the different opportunities to be derived from the giant project.
