Its an interesting question and not well understood. We'd first need to know what "left" and "right" mean.
I think the view the left is pro equality and right is pro hierarchy is way to simplistic and could be argued to be incorrect. Actually I've seen a lot of people try to define left and right by ideals and I think this approach is misguided and unsatisfactory.
To me left and right are best viewed as "tribes" i.e. each is a coalition of many different groups with overlapping (and sometimes contradictory) ideologies.
The position of the "right" or "left" is some sort of compromise position between the competing groups aligned to each side. These positions change over time based on circumstance and shifting demographics of who makes up each coalition.
Policies are proposed based on the ideologies and implementation (if it happens) of those policies may or may not achieve the intended goals depending on how far the ideology deviates from any realistic view of reality - not to mention the impacts of unintended consequences.
Someone in the center can be viewed as someone who either outright rejects alignment with either group, or who believes themselves to have a weak association with right or left based on their own ideology and may agree with ideas associated with both sides to varying degrees.
This view lets us makes sense of the term "radical centrist". Note that being a "centrist" is NOT the same as being a moderate. A radical on the right or left is a person who believes there should be "radical" social change in line with an ideology associated with either side. A radical centrist is someone who also believes there should be radical social change but that this should be modeled on ideology that is not aligned with either right or left - and may borrow ideas from both or neither.
