KB "the company seriously takes on new values and a modern approach" "they have moved from cutting old growth forests to plantation harvesting"
"isnt that a big change?"
As far as values is concerned a big change - no. GNS stills needs to move toward a less combative approach and re: Old growth to plantation, GNS is hell bent on getting more woodchips to continue its woodchipping operations alongside the intended Pulping operations. Serendipitously (if they have market power to effect it) GNS hopes it will chip and pulp the 'cheap as chips' taxpayer funded and investors' ripped off plantations that are up for purchase at fire sale prices.
If you believe that Old growth and regrowth native forests are no longer being harvested you need to get out and come down here a just have a look, talk to peole who are neighboutrs to these coups, people who travel the state and see the state its in. Thousands of hectares of these are being trashed every year.
GNS has had to as the remaining old growth is diminishing, the social dissent is getting politically damaging to the chippers and the politicians.
"the mill they are proposing is the most modern in the world with all sorts of environmental controls"
Well maybe us naysayers here in Tassie are barking up the wrong tree but, we believe that a project that cannot/will not be closed loop does not employ best practice. Also, a chlorine mill is not considered best practice within the industry. The indoctrination and propaganda put forward by GNS has not quelled the distrust by the enlightened These mythical World's Best Practice mill and forestry practices is a complete con job but has got through to a large number of investors. You've got to walk the talk.
"hey how serious do they have to get?" Very Much more serious, more conciliatory and present tangibles as evidence rather than deceptive rhetoric.
"to me, they have changed direction totally." To me they have not. Any changes that are to be made will be under duress from the changing operating environment and that currently includes the restructure to save their bacon and resurrect.
"but green groups are not giving gns a chance" It is the case and will continue to be . To expect anything different is folly.
It is not just "green groups" it is ordinary everyday Tasmanians as well as so called listed green groups' These are the realities. J
