Also interesting to note the impact of batteries on the energy retailers. As battery prices come down, they will face a squeeze as people no longer buy power from the grid. No doubt they will increase fixed charges (as Synergy did last year), but that will end up driving people off the grid all together. The need to charge electric vehicles may be their saving grace. However, I suspect many could still go off grid while still charging an electric car. I consume only half the electricity I produce from my roof top solar panels, and I’ve got roof space to double my capacity. That’s 80-90kWh/day during the day for a good part of the year. For a comparison, the Tesla 3 battery is 50kWh providing 350km range.
