Origin Energy is on page 51 of the AFR today saying it is confident it will lock in customers for its Australia Pacific liquefied natural gas (APLNG) joint venture in QLD this year.

They should have something to say by the middle of the year.

It goes on to say that Conoco bought a 50 per cent stake in Origin in 2008 for $9.6 billion.

Conoco senior vice president Ryan Lance says the company needs an oil price of $US45 a barrel to break even.

Both companies have played down suggestions of an oversupply of gas.

"we can see there is plenty of capacity in the market to grow demand if there is supply there," said Origin's finance and strategy executive director, Karne Moses.
