Much of Western Australia has been cleared of native vegetation, particularly the SW wheat-belt area. It has been postulated that the clearing of the vegetation may be responsible for the decline in rainfall in this area (due to transpiration, convection changes). That is, the rainfall decline may not be due to global warming as seems to be the popular interpretation.
