FWIW Google has been using https for my searches for quite a few months now, both in my old Internet Explorer and now in Google Chrome. If I try to force Google search to use http by deleting the "s" in the URL window it keeps reverting to https. Google claim that the searches are more secure but they collect all our data and hand it over to the NSA anyway LOL.
For anyone interested, Inquick Search and DuckDuckGo are supposed to be free from the clutches of Google, although I haven't checked them out for a while.
