- world is effectively smaller...even isolated regions post storms etc on social media
- tragedies aside, people are generally more impractical and ill prepared ( cyclone preparations aside perhaps) for nature's strengths and fury, especially in the "West"...many of these drownings in storms are people's being too casual, sometimes stupid unfortunately!
- media is more sensationalist with its attention seeking grabs ( click bait) and sensationalist headlines
