Radicalism has got it's hooks into the religion as a whole, although, the left doesn't like to acknowledge it.
Years ago there was a PDF on Lebanon, which was a beautiful country, and would be frequented by travelers from the world over, showing the before and after civil war.....christians verse muslims, and the result was a shelled out hellhole.
Afghanistan was as depicted in your movie, and remember the Ghan railway was built by Afghanistanis, and so named, when there was a far greater dialogue between cultures. Read a book called Valley of the Five Lions showing Aghanistan's struggles against the Soviet Union.
A muslim mate of mine, who was born in Alexandria, Egypt, went back there recently, and couldn't believe how much cotton was being used. He used to go to the beach and meet with girls but that has been replaced by this new seemingly acceptable version of covered Islam.
Islam isn't as much the problem, as the group who repeatedly excuse the behaviour of the radical nutters who have taken over the religion.
