What happens if Australia ratifies Kyoto Protocol?
If Australia ratifies the Kyoto Protocol the market for carbon credits will change significantly. The international market for carbon trading in Australia will expand rapidly. If Australia does ratify there will be a wide array of potential buyers and intermediaries entering the market from Australia and around the world, increasing the demand for carbon credits. The NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme has been designed to be fully integrated with any Kyoto Protocol based carbon trading system. Additionally, the recently announced State and Territory initiative on a national emissions trading network should be fully transferable with the current NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme.
Rudd:
02/02/07
Mr Rudd said the Kyoto agreement should be ratified immediately and action should be taken on developing a national emissions trading scheme and a mandatory renewable energy target.
