It's an open trade so still needs to be closed when it is possible. Probably a big win here for shorters.
Side note:
Interestingly for a non-trading company (share price = $0), you still need to sell the shares owed to complete the short transaction, and you need to buy them from somewhere - so even $0 shares are technically not worthless, just worth very little and only worth something for shorters needing to complete transactions. In practice it is different.
