That was an excellent post Mike. Those are some huge issues facing South African gold producers. Gold now below $1,200, so the tipping point must be getting closer and closer.

Given the seemingly almost impossible task of restarting production after a lengthy period of C&M, I think they'll tough it out for as long as possible. Maybe the SA Government will provide some assistance package to the industry to keep miners employed and avoid the social unrest.

Can't help but think these big SA gold miners will be looking around for easier, cheaper projects to buy. I'm holding one african play that would seem to have a very big target on it's back, given the quality of the deposit and it's location on trend from existing mines owned by some majors. Whether it gets taken out, only time will tell I guess.
