For what its worth, I had the same issue with Etrade yesterday.
I was looking to buy 4.9 and the highest bid was 4.5.
Order just got cancelled (without a reason why) and when I rang, the feedback was that the systems rejected the order for fear that it would manipulate the market.
I don't think it is broker specific but moreover a function of the ASX.
Either way it was frustrating
