I haven't traded stocks for a very long time but I recall, physical stops on physical stocks or CFD can have a price gap through a stop loss at market open and you get filled the next best possible price. I have had leveraged position where a gap through of 20% meant that you get out with an immediate 20% haircut and I was using a STP model. I recall that it was so fast that the CFD provider manually closed out and I had positive slippage! Liquidity is another issue here especially with the mid caps and if you are not observing the bid and ask stacks you can sometimes push price up and down quite considerably. In the US I believe the spreads on a lot of the bigger stocks are 1C just to demonstrate the liquidity and number of participants effectively looking at bid/ask stacks are quite meaningless.

In the commodity/FX space, size isn't an issue! And the brokerage or spread is so cheap. No trading halts and no dilution to death for holding!
