You seem to forget that when our wine is competing against wines from Europe. We are not a powerhouse for wines so when ours go up in price, American and especially European wines will be a lot more desirable.
Don't know how much of a derogatory term it is, but Europeans class all of our wines as "new world" and it doesn't matter if its grown here on imported European vines. Everything we do is looked down as a lower class in Europe
