I think you're right PJ even with technological discoveries I have no faith in our governments to plan ahead/arrange an orderly transition to other energy sources i.e. at best if oil soars there will be a very ugly transition period which could last many years . Look at NZ which is typical, haven't planned for future and face blackouts, poor energy security until new discoveries are made. All governments are myopic.
