what if petrol hits 2 dollars, page-43

Quite frankly, oil has been just too cheap and we have been wasting it. By comparison, a liter of milk which has virtually no infrastructure, costs more than a liter of fuel. Compare by example the massive structure necessary to find, produce, refine, store and deliver fuel.

I haven't seen people giving up drinking milk. They just adjust.

Have a look at the cars beside you on the road. Most are an over kill for the job of carrying one or two passengers, and they are driven at whim for any random often self indulgent purpose. Cars don't use petrol when they are not being used. And petrol is still the cheapest cost item in running a car.

Don't forget that the petrol station is the second arm of the Tax Department with half the cost to the motorist being Tax. It wouldn't hurt for the Government to lighten up a bit on that in the interest of lowering inflation.
