Hitler came to power in 1931 when Germany was an economic basket case. By 1939 Germany was riding the crest of an economic boom and had militarised to become Europe's most formidable single power.

The Germans took France in exactly half the time the yanks took Iraq.

The world was fascinated with Hitler in the late 30s, especially as the Great Depression had hurt the West so much.
