This a great thread..funnily enough I thought it was all a bit Y2K when all this talk started about 6 months ago..now I am a believer!!
Actually the company I work for is still hiring agressively and I am about to be transferred to Beijing with a 21% salary increase..apart from one friend in IT i do not know of anyone else who has lost their job and that includes a lot of people in the financial services industry
People are leaving our office all the time (we have a high turnover rate in one section) and going on to better jobs with better salaries... and we replace these people.
Having said that I am living in Thailand and not Australia..but certainly the reality on the ground does not seem to be as bad as is being made out...
