I was inferring that to go along with the idea of scaling back our defense that the defense department should be more of a unit that has a specific role within Australia rather than be required to be asked for help sometime after a problem occurs
I hate to use the term Home Guard but that is more alone the lines of my thinking but still available as a fully trained and equipped Defense force
I agree with many of the comments about us not fighting wars in the other hemisphere rather than helping our near neighbors and policing our own piece of the world, as can be deduced by the recent news regarding Nauru and the Chinese overtures, when have we sent ships and personnel there as a " show the flag" visit.
