Here is the World Bank stats on global Military spends:
https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/MS.MIL.XPND.GD.ZS
Please note the following countries have significantly lower military spends as a %age of GDP:
Austraiia.....................2%
-NZ..............................1.1%
Canada........................1.2%
Germany.....................1.2%
Italy.............................1.5%
Indonesia....................0.8%
Netherlands................1.2%
Phillipines...................1.4%
Sweeden......................1%
If we reduced our military spend (currently $35 billion AUD) by a half% of GDP we would save $8.75 billion p/a and still
have a military spend of 1.5% of GDP.
$8.75 billion a year would certainly improve our health, education and aged pensions.
If we take a page out of Canada's book and spend 1.2% of our GDP on military we could save $14 billion a year.
