Q - What is a good income these days?
A - Enough to do what you want to do;

Personally, more is better as in my mind I can achieve the things I want to achieve more quickly when I have more money. An example would be my planning for retirement, planning for my kids entry into the [adult] world and ensuring that my family eats well and is happy.

Money doesn't buy happiness for me, money buys security. Security gets me freedom and freedom makes me happy ;)

I don't need to be the richest guy in the graveyard but if I can own a dozen houses by my mid 40's then it'll be time to wind off the stress, take a job down at the marina and chillax for another 30 years.

So, in my house - a good income is entirely relevant on your age and your "life plan". At 45, my income can fall to a pittence if I can keep herding cats for now ;)
