Heard a coalition politician on richo last night, described himself as simple (immediately impressed me) and finally some one who likes simple figures.
    Quoted following figures.

In the last 6 years of govt

-education has increased from $18b to $30b.a 67% increase.
-health has increased from $40b to $65b.a 64% increase.
-welfare has increased from $97b to $145b .a 50% increase.

within the welfare figures is old aged pensions increased from $34b to $58b.

His point was that these increases are not sustainable because we are growing at the wrong end eg we are an aging population with obvious increasing demand for health and welfare services.

He pointed out if you went to the bank to borrow next years interest payment on your mortgage what would the bank say?.

Anyway i thought the figures were interesting.I was also impressed with this politician, almost a breath of fresh air.

poor bugger was asked about the ppl scheme he gave an unconvincing answer, even jeff kennett said it should be delayed,i believe most coalition members believe it is a stupid extravagant abbott policy.
