Very well @GCar. I'm waiting for someone to actually explain the mechanism but in the meantime, ASX has a guidance note for Automated Order Processing systems and among other things, your platform provider is responsible for minimising the risk of "fat finger" errors such as placing orders far from the market price. The rule for anomalous order thresholds doesn't apply in the closing auction (as orders well away from market are often necessary to ensure "at market" execution on close). See the ASX operating procedures for more. If you're not allowed to submit such limit orders, take it up with your trading platform - it isn't the ASX or some weird cabal stopping you.
