I remember this real old person game to one of my relies places at a dinner party.
The conversation came around to that topic:
"“There are people who can call themselves witches and use it for fiendish purposes,”"
Their simple reply was alot of people use similar actions when they think about some one or what they want. There was more said and discussed on that topic but I just sat and watched.
Most did not agree but that idea just stuck in my head as a youngster.
