I think the problem comes from Turnbull who is infamous for being an impossible prick to work with and a diehard leftist, a party misfit. At least that is what so many who know him have been saying for years.
That must be very frustrating for all in the party let alone the conservatives. The inevitable is (belatedly) coming to the fore IMO with the likes of Bernadi sending up signal flares.
The LNP needs to bite the bullet straight away or they are cactus.
