The 'free world' will not allow government control to be never-ending, ie what if the vaccine doesn't arrive or is 18 months away in 6 months time.
What if our hospital capacity is increased to allow for any expected surge. We certainly aren't overwhelmed at the moment & more are recovering in AUS each day than new cases.
As the world loses its income, people will only 'obey' for so long. Social distancing may be the norm but it needs to have an end date.
