As has been pointed out the US had the perfect opportunity to take control of both the Iraqi and Kuwaiti oil field in 1991 but did not. They will not do so this time either, the fields will remain in the ownership of the nation of Iraq.
If you believe the theory perhaps you can enlighten us all on the agreements that give the Italians, French and Germans an 'interest' in the Iraqi fields - by the term 'interest' I mean equity. By the way Italy os one of the European nations calling for a united European support for the U.S.
It ain't about oil, that's far too simple and transparant.
