'God' is invented, with all kinds of associated threats & rewards, including afterlife, so people who believe & follow can avoid self-harm & also avoid harming others & society
It is highly probable, close to certain, that Jesus existed because early Christianity grew in a frenetic manner. In other words, using acts of magic, Jesus created a frenzy amongst his believers
Of course, to believe this, one must also believe certain human minds can perform such acts of magic or deception
