I’ve had a brief look into where 12CQ may fit into the missile and guided weapons landscape.
The biggest threat is hypersonic missiles, particularly to naval shipping. By the time a ships radar has detected a hypersonic missile it is about 10 seconds from striking. And the missile is difficult to lock onto by the ships missile defences because the hypersonic missile is often shrouded in a ‘cloud’.
So I can see a need for far quicker processing and intelligence to lock on and deploy a missile defence.
If navies can’t defend themselves against hypersonic missiles then ships will be replaced with subs. And the US plan to be able to deploy hypersonic missiles from subs by 2025.
