The Australian government has released a National Quantum Strategy after many discussions with members of the Australian quantum community and others. The strategy is guided by the following vision:In 2030, Australia is recognised as a leader of the global quantum industry, and quantum technologies are integral to a prosperous, fair and inclusive Australia.Australia believes that quantum will be a major opportunity for the country and has a target of creating 8,700 new jobs in a $2.2 billion AUS ($1.5B USD) industry by 2030 and continuing to grow and generating 19,400 jobs in a $6 billion AUS ($4B USD) industry by 2045. In order to achieve this, they have developed the countries quantum strategy around six key themes:Creating thriving research and development, investment in and use of quantum technologiesSecuring access to essential quantum infrastructure and materialsBuilding a skilled and growing quantum workforceEnsuring our standards and frameworks support national interestsBuilding a trusted, ethical and inclusive quantum ecosystemTo follow up on these themes, the National Quantum Strategy document details action items that will be implemented for each of these themes. In addition, the Australian government is establishing this year a $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund (NRF) to support, diversify and transform Australia’s industry. Within this fund, $1 billion AUS ($675M USD) will be used to grow critical technologies and building capabilities in areas like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics and software development.
