I'm thinking it's about IP valuation and accounting. Big players can acquire us and all we have of value is the IP. At which point IP actually has a capitalisation value realised. But what is the exact dollar value that we can agree to? Way too early to say. So we would rather keep the IP, keep paying the roughly 400k in fees to maintain IP, keep reporting around 30 to 40k loss annually with amortisation. R&D blood sweat and tears is hard to part with for a pittance.
The big player that buys is now stuck with an IP at that buy in value. Cannot add to the IP value. Tech takeovers are tricky when IP is the only asset for a long while until commercial success. And it's an intangible asset. Better to keep our own home grown IP, develop it to commercialisation or very near to it.
There is also the big government funding option, as we see Germany has done for a chip startup. Probably the best option.
and all tech companies, including the biggest and best always report IP amortisation losses on their balance sheets. When it's their own internal IP they do it for the lifetime of the IP, and have also grabbed a massive customer base that keeps the cash flow super healthy.
