Disclaimer: I am bullish EV's, Storage and lithium. Adoption needs to increase for EVs/storage in the west though and I think it will.
I also dont see an alternative to Li-ion in the next 10 years due to the stringent and lengthly testing requirements and the fact that many battery types have disadvantages to Li-ion especially for EV use. Advancements in Li-ion chemistries will be the next advances in batteries over the coming years, such as silicon infused anodes which can add approx 30% mileage onto existing batteries currently in use, these have already been tested for over two years (ASX company in collaboration with global battery and auto experts) and will likely come into use 2019/20 IMO.
