The report you refer to makes no criticism of easy working conditions in Australian mines. Our FIFO workers in very remote areas such as the Pilbara are not at all over indulged and are some of the hardest workers who operate far removed from their families. Mining productivity these days has far more to do with machine productivity than human. The level of automation ensures that, there are now remotely controlled trucks and trains for example. Companies serious about both cost control and productivity need to have a greater focus on the efficiency of their equipment. Any aspirations on Australian mine workers are unwarranted.
