< Could someone briefly bring me up to speed on LOK. Obviously inferior to Google and Sensis so are holders hoping for a takeover? >
Hi TheJudge.....
Micheal Irish has given you a very good summary of what happened to Looksmart (LOK) and why it quickly became a much despised stock here on the ASX. The shares (2,102,184) trade as CDI's here, as the Co is listed on the nasdaq in the US.
When the Co appointed A new CEO he quickly realised that taking on the BIG search portals in the US was only going to be, a road to the poor house. He 'downsized' very quickly and (being from an advertising sales & marketing background), devised a new plan of attack utilising some of the Co's assets (properties & software applications) and already, it is startinf to show some great results.
When publishers & media Co's (newspapers/magazines/TV stations) realised that BIG internet search Co's had already taken some$6bB - $8B in advertising revenues from them, they have turned to a David Hills (Looksmart) plan or, two, that will not only help "rescue" some of iy back, but will allow them to regain control once again, in a market projected to grow to $12B - $15B in the next few years.
There already are indications (partnerships) that show Looksmart are involved with what will be an incedible transformation of how people will conduct their future search enquiries, on the net. The plan involves all the major publisher & media Co's in the US and rewards for LOK shareholders will be considerable.
In the last 12 months, LOK's shareprice value has climbed from a low of just $3.60 to trade tomorrow @ around $7.60 ..... That's a rise of over 110% but some chartists see a shareprice value here in OZ of $14.00 - $15.00 within the next 3 - 6 months, or, sooner, for LOK here in OZ
LOK (Looksmart) is a STRONG BUY, if ever there was one, IMHO.
Cheers !!
:)

ps: CEO David Hill has made it clear on at least two occasions that Looksmart are NOT for sale. That does not mean that a giant like news corp could not buy a controlling stake, in the Co.
